Katelios ~ Kefalonia ~ Greece
Katelios is a gorgeous little fishing village with a dozen or so
small taverna’s lining the little seafront. It is in a wonderful
location surrounded by mountains and sea views out to the
neighbouring island of Zakynthos.
Situated on the south eastern coast of Kefalonia, Katelios
is a small friendly resort best know for it's excellent selection
of fish tavernas as well as many other dishes.
One of our favourites is Katelios Taverna (it has to be really
Detta's daughter runs it with her Greek husband Ilias - but don't
let that influence you!) The other restaurant owners are
friendly, cheerful & while it is quiet there is some music at various
places around the resort. It is a really relaxing get away from
it all kind of place and it is safe for women be on their own.
It has its own beautiful stretch of beach which is never very
busy and is perfect for the early morning stretch and strolls.
Just over the rocks is the huge stretch of beach called Mounda.
This is where the turtles come to lay their eggs and the place
we use for our creativity walks. Either beach is the perfect
place to relax and unwind. The water is clear, blue and shallow.
The sun shines, it is surrounded by mountains and the air is
fragranced by the wild herbs and the salty sea.
The whole area is one of nature and is popular with walkers,
bird spotters and its peaceful atmosphere attracts those wishing to
escape the hustle and bustle of busier resorts. There are taxi's available
either water or by car if you want a bit more life or to dance the night away!
Katelios offers the experience of a traditional Greek way of life....
but don't leave it too long before you visit, it is slowly beginning to
change in small ways - experience it while you can!
